What is the process for testing?

REFERRAL FIRST

  • Referral from physician or other provider

    • Available on the web-site via a link.


  • Self-refer

    • Feel free to call and make an appointment


  • Walk-in clinics

    • Check the website schedule to see when the concussion clinic or other clinics are available and call to make sure there are still spots.


DOCUMENTS TO BE COMPLETED

  • You will be asked to complete an intake document.


  • You will be asked to complete several releases of information including, if appropriate, medical records, IEP, 504s, educational records, employment records, job descriptions, and other case-specific documents will need to be received before we move to the next step.


  • You will be asked to completed several self-report questionnaires.


  • With the patient’s permission, family members or other knowledgeable persons may be interviewed and asked to share their perceptions and perspective on important aspects of the history and symptoms such as ADHD, criminal cases, supporting documents.


  • Cases for litigation, workman's compensation, cases involving testimony or court will require additional contact for engagement.


CLINICAL INTERVIEW

  • After documents were completed and records received you will be called for a clinical interview.


  • There may be an option for a telemedicine or in-person clinical interview.


  • History is obtained through reviewing medical and other records, and through interview with the patient.


  • You may be asked to conduct some testing on the same day.


AFTER THE CLINICAL INTERVIEW

  • A testing session will be scheduled for between 2-4 hours. Some diagnoses may require two days of testing for 4-8 hours.


  • If it is a legal case, we will discuss the location and duration of testing at that time.


TESTING

  • Testing will be scheduled where you have more than enough time. You will be asked to answer questions, manipulate objects, solve problems, remember things, draw, copy, and do computer-based tests.


  • The examination typically consists of the administration of standardized tests using oral questions, paper and pencil, computers, the manipulation of materials such as blocks and puzzles, and other procedures.


  • Depending on the scope and intent of the evaluation, testing may focus on a wide range of cognitive functions including attention, memory, language, academic skills, reasoning and problem solving, visuospatial ability and sensory-motor skills.


  • The neuropsychologist may also administer tests and questionnaires concerning psychological aspects of mood, emotional style, behavior and personality.


FEEDBACK

  • Depending on the case, you will either receive the results immediately, the next day, within two weeks or they will be provided to your referring physician in the form of a letter or report.
